I found this film to be very interesting. Mainly because there was such a fine line between parts of high school that are still that way in present time and things that are now completely different. One thing that stuck out to me was the girl who got in trouble for violating the dress code with the length of her skirt. It was relatable content because public high schools in present time still have dress codes but I did have to laugh a little bit because I know for one in my old high school that wouldn’t of been even a second look by the principle let alone seen as a dress code violation but that was just one instance that showed how much times have really changed since then. I also noticed that some of the classes I’m assuming they where health class where separated by gender, I know back then it wasn’t exactly socially acceptable to have classes like that to be co-ed. I’m aware there are probably a handful of high schools in present day that still hold classes like health separated by the gender of the student but majority of high schools now have everyone regardless of their gender in one room and everyone learns about everything together. The major thing that stood out to me and honestly kind of annoyed me however where the classes that seemed to be geared to teaching men to be men, or women to be women. Although I’m aware that the image of the “American dream” is for the man to be the bread winner and the women to take care of the children, bills and the home I think this would be an extremely hard class to have in any public high school in any part of the country in todays day in age. Its more common now then I think in any other time period in our country’s history for children/young adults to have been brought up in a single parent house hold, whether that be a single mother or father. The film also made me wonder how much is going to change socially and in the education system in the next 40 years.

In the Mind of Plants
In the Mind of Plants is a documentary by Jacques Mitsch that contradicts the Idea that Plants don’t exist as we do with a mind, body, and nervous system. in an incident in Africa where Kudu were mysteriously dying. During the Dry season the Kudu would eat the Acacia, a local type of bush. Only in the Ranches where the Kudu were high in number did this occur. After intensive research The Acacia plant was found to be the culprit. Amazing that this Bush decided the amount of Kudu needed to be culled for its own survival. The plant did this by increasing the amount of Tannin (a Molecule used to defend itself from leaf feeding insects and paracytes.) the bushes also Communicated by releasing Ethylene that would get caught in the wind and warn the plants down wind. There was another idea that the More Genes an Organism has the more evolved it was. Humans ended up having 26000 Genes but then later on rice was found to have over 50,000 genes. Scientists almost gave up on that idea. Then i began to think to myself plants pre-date us so why can’t this be true that Plants are actually further evolved than we are. 1. they’ve already fully accepted the idea that renewable energy is the way to go Through Photosynthesis 2. they can live for thousands of years 3. They don’t have to work a 9-5 or pay taxes.
That was just a joke, or was it? i really enjoyed that idea that Plants live in their own version of reality and only are perceived as Slow because there concept of time is different than ours. There are Plants that Dance to music, not the way Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy Dances but its still very Graceful and pleasing to the eye. Our world is truly remarkable and the idea that plants are communicating chemically like the Acacia And Oak tree. Oak Trees used Chemical warfare to kill off any tree that would grow too close to it. I highly recommend This Documentary it’s very enlightening. Plants also Sleep, and if deprived of sleep they would die. the Chemical for example that puts the Albizzia to sleep is called Potassium Cheledonate. It seems like its time for Humans to get off their high horse before the plants turn against us. I hope as a species we can learn to create a balance with the ecosystem and understand that every being animal, plant, and insect have a purpous. Except Mosquitos, they can die in a fire.
High school 1968 film Thoughts
Personally to me this film was the best documentary ever made about education. It capture the natural essence of individuals been part of the high school environment. The reality of education in that time was recorded in film. It kind of upsets me to see how well grounded the education was back then and how it has gotten worst nowadays. This film showed the connection of teachers and students how the educators become second parents demonstrating concern in shaping young adults for better life. It looks like they meddle in the students life so much but it did help them to understand types of manners society expects and different things they can become to contribute to the society they live in. They even had extracurricular classes like cooking and typing. Now because the public school lacks of funding the first things to cut down it school clubs and the arts. Now kids in these days are getting worst it does not matter if its high school lower grade schools are dealing with kids schools behaviors too. At the age of six kids call there teacher’s bitch well knowing what it means. Some of them even elementary grade age students are violent to the teacher and the teacher can’t not protect oneself can even throw a punch not even touch them. They have to let the kids or teenagers beat the crap out of them and the only thing they can do is write an accident report for the principal to pick the degree of punishment the kid can receive.
Today teachers have to be afraid of the kids so they don’t lose their job. They are so many laws that protect the children and I understand they should be. But the laws that protect children in the school environment should change. So many teachers end up losing their jobs unfairly due to child who is been malevolent and knows the law favors them. Principals in the public system are afraid of parents and they put more pressure in teachers just to please the parents. Now parents these days they relay too much in technology as a help to raising kids and that is why the child behavior worsens. There is lost of cases of children breaking tables or computers because the teachers didn’t allow them to use it went they ask for it. This is why teachers cant get too involve in students lives because they have to watch their back first, they are on their own and is so easy to lose their jobs. To me Frederick Wiseman observational documentary mode of a high school is magnificent. He should do his observational documentary of all public schools from k all the way to 12 grades without asking permission of principals. If he does that all the staff member would be aware of it and the documentary would be a fake as the film will show everything is okay when it is not. Teachers now they teach they don’t educate with knowledge and morals. Because that’s what the law and fear has reduced them to.
Trapped: Netflix Film
This film really hit a nerve not because of a personal experience but because of my own beliefs on life. The film is based on the topic of abortion and the individuals involved whether it be the people against it, the people getting the abortion done, or the people doing the procedure. This film was getting into the facilities and filming what the rooms for the procedure looks like and even getting the story from the individuals who worked in these facilities and their side of what its like to work there when they are unable to make appointments because of the laws being passed. People in this society are making these laws to make it more and more difficult for these procedures to take place. There was one part of the film that attracted my attention the most, there was a 13 year old girl who was gang banged and was trying to book an appointment but because of everything that was happening and that they couldnt book her appointment for that day, they had to turn this poor child away. That to me is outrageous, this child now has to go and have a child just because of some horrible men decided to abuse her and she wasn’t given the opportunity to take care of it. No child asks to be put in this world, and i 100% feel like it is the women’s right to her body. I understand other individuals stand on its everyone’s right to life but at the same time by not allowing these women to choose in a way we are basically taking away that woman’s right to her own life. I understand this is a touchy subject for a lot of people but i just felt a need to share my opinion on this film since it hit home so much.
My Transgender Kid: Netflix Film
Bringing myself to watch this film was a little hard for me seeing how I do have my own feelings towards this topic. Watching this film made me realize that myself as a parent in the future would have dealt with a situation like this much differently then the way these parents dealt with it. Not to say the way they handled it is wrong, its just very different from myself. These parents were allowing their 7 year old children transform themselves to the opposite gender from which they were born. They were allowing them to make the choice on going to school in this way and changing their names completely. I’m not saying that it is wrong to become transgender or that it doesn’t exist, but what i am saying is that i don’t feel that is the appropriate age to allow that change to happen. I feel like as a parent you should tell your child in this instance that they undersgtand how they are feeling and the things they want but as for now to just grow up as a child and when they gain experience understanding of the world and what they are saying then they can make a decision as big as that one. At the age of 7 they don’t fully understand the consequences that will happen from their decisions and actions. I feel like now a days parents are too eager to have their children grow up and become adults. Parents now a days don’t allow their children to be just that children.
Holocaust Film THoughts
While watching the two movies on the same subject matter of the Holocaust, I had two completely different reactions to each. The First film, Night and Fog, I felt almost indifferent to what I was seeing. I think because the film was set up and shot in an informational way I didn’t really take much from it. It was almost the same for me as reading a textbook on the subject matter, which I’ve done so much that it doesn’t seem to phase me anymore. On the other hand the second film, Shoah, affected me more because it was shot with the intention of appealing to your emotions. Hearing first hand accounts from actual survivors and their family members was more personal and allowed me to relate to the atrocities they endured and had to watch their fellow men, women, and children face all at the hand of other human beings. At the end of both movies though I couldn’t help but ask myself, “How could the world watch this and all the other human genocides occur without uttering a word?”
Caskets
There are all kinds of different caskets that are made for people. a person can have a elegant wood casket which is a fine poplar wood casket or even a maple wood casket. also, there are a pine wood caskets which is mainly for Jewish people. Now, Jewish people have a casket called a Houdini which is a an all wood square casket made up of pine wood, and all it has is a small hole on the head side of the casket. The hole is mainly for the people that are at the funeral to see the body of the person they loved for the last time. Also, its for when they bury the casket and body with dirt, in their belief they feel the body should be touching the dirt.
They also have casket that are made specifically for cremation, now none thing to say about these caskets is that they are very heavy; they are made up of compressed wood, now you would think that it should be a little light in weight but obviously as I said it isn’t at ALL. There are also caskets that are called precious metals. These caskets are extremely heavy and extremely expensive. these caskets to a company that buys and sells caskets can go for easily 2000 dollars, but when they sell it to funeral homes they can go for about 3000, now when the funeral homes sells it to the families, the price can become 10,000 dollars. For example, a 32 Oz Solid Bronze Pieta Glass Full Open Casket price to a family can be around 18,000 dollars, mean while a casket company can get the casket for 3,000 but it will cost the funeral home 7,000. So of course everyone wants to make money because at the end of the day business is business. See you later.
Holocaust? More Like Hell!
This week film we watched was Night and Fog. Documentary witched film Ten years after the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps Alain Resnais documented the abandoned grounds of Auschwitz. One of the first place reflections on the horrors of the Holocaust, Night and Fog changes the stillness of the abandoned camps with haunting wartime footage. This film is pretty big eye opener, even though it’s a few years after the holocaust the concentrated camps was definitely a brutal place to be in. Alain Resnais dose a great job in filming the environment and showing real footage on what they actually did to the Jews people in different areas of the camp. The scene that really pops out to me is the gas chambers mindset that Jews are going in there to take a shower but in reality there walking into their own death Alain Resnais does a great job filming the scratches on the wall then showing some real film of the bodies laying on the floor after being gassed. I also found it interesting that there wasn’t just all Jews, criminals were also locked inside the camps but were treated better compared to the Jews. I wish I could say I’m surprised about that but I’m not Jews pretty much the low of lowest in the camps. Just crazy to me that week prior we watched a film when Hitler was on the rise to power and it gave this new life feeling just to see what happens years latter really makes me think if German citizen knew this was going to happen how many would be actually back up Hitler still. I still stand by my statement it’s one thing to read about what happened but its way different watching it happen it even though you can paint a pitcher in your head but I feel like your imagination limits you then actually seeing it.
Night and Fog
This documentary film had a big impact on me. I’ve learned about the Holocaust and what had happened in concentration camps but never like this. The films clips in this documentary mad me cringe. I never actually realized what these people went through in these camps and how brutal the Nazis actually were. This made me have a completely different outlook as to what actually went on on there. It was truly disturbing that people would actually do this kind of stuff to each other. This makes me think that the Nazis were just really soulless people and were just trained to kill. I do not know how one person can have such hatred for one race that he persuades thousands of soldiers to do these horrid acts. While I was watching this film I was surprised at how normal it was killing innocent people in these concentration camps. I couldn’t even imagine what it was like to go through all that suffering abuse, and even losing your family or your life. After this film I have a completely different outlook on the “Holocaust” and concentration camps. It was hell on earth.
Food Inc.
Over the weekend I decided to watch the controversial and widely known documentary known as Food Inc. I had always heard about this documentary but I never actually gotten a chance too watch it. I can finally say i have watched it and let me tell you I am horrified and disgusted with the things that go on in our food industry. This documentary was filmed 10 years ago so i’m hoping that things took a change for the better in the food industry, after the truth was revealed on how our food was made. I have been mindlessly eating food my whole life without even knowing what goes into it. Before this documentary I never actually realized what goes on in the places that make the things we eat on a daily basis. The documentary basically takes you behind the scenes of chicken farms, cow farms, crop fields and all the farmers that raise these animals and crops for the multi-million dollar corporations that sell them to us. They expose that everything we are eating is genetically modified and not natural what so ever just to satisfy the mass need of meats to the fast food industry’s that are the highest purchaser. My favorite meal to date is a bacon cheeseburger with fries. But after watching what goes on in these farms and factories I don’t want to eat another one again. Don’t get me wrong I probably will, but that’s how i feel right now. Also another thing that stood out to me in this film was the treatment of workers and farmers. The multi-million dollar corporations treat the farmers and factory workers like garbage. In general this film showed me a whole different side to the food industry and what we eat on a daily basis. You can be sure that i’ll be checking everything i eat in depth from now on.
