Well in that film there isn’t anything similar to how my high school experience was. They had more personal relationships with the students giving opinions on colleges and talking about their relationships to them. Girls and boys had separate sexual education classes nowadays we have everything together. The way the teachers spoke to the students just felt REAL nowadays most teachers are like programmed robots. The way the documentary was filmed was obviously observatory justing recording a day in school as it went without any input. Although I have to say there were times that the camera would zoom in at awkward moments like when he zoomed into the girls’ behinds during their gym class. I don’t know what was the point of that. Maybe that’s why it was banned from Philly for some time? But overall it showed all aspects of what a day in school would be. Wish it was like that everywhere teaching us how to survive out in the REAL WORLD not trying to teach us things we’ll never need or forcing us to take classes out of our interest besides basic reading and math all those other classes aren’t necessary. Future kids in highschool should be able to choose their field of interest from the moment they apply. I personally don’t remember half the things I learned in global history or earth science. Do you?

Last weeks film was a very interesting film. The film was about cole mine workers who haven’t been getting there benefits and begin to go on strike against the company that they work for. They do go on strike for about 13 months and in that 13 month time period they expand from where they originally began going on strike to where i believe was new york. One of the cole mine workers speaks to a police officer talking about what kind of wage they desire for the kind of work that they do in the cole mines. The police officer than sort of shuts the cole mine worker down by telling him how much he makes and the types of benefits he is getting. What really was a big thing in having was dental coverage because a lot of them couldn’t afford that so hearing the police  officer having dental coverage really surprised the cole mine worker. While the male cole mine workers began to slowly get discouraged the wife’s of these men begin to step up during the strike. They begin to line up in front of cars lay on the floor not letting the workers who weren’t on strike get by. The film maker also does an amazing job in getting involve during the time when the women began to step up. I found amazing how fearless the women in this movie where because they got threatened, police where coming in dragging them off of the ground and they where shot at. Throughout all that the women came back which is amazing because the men where more scared than the women. If you compare this movie to high school personally i liked high school better because i felt like the film high school was more of a relatable movie while this movie was a movie that not many can relate too. The filmmakers are very different in there style of filming because in high school the filmmaker doesn’t get involved while in the cole mine movie the filmmaker is very much involve.

This is my favorite time of the year. this time every year NFL Free Agency starts. I am a huge sports fan, and when its time for teams to go out and get the best players that are available through free agency or through trades; this is what makes and breaks teams. Now, my favorite team is of course the New York Giants. they went out and added the best receiver available in Brandon Marshall, as well as the best blocking tight end Rhitt Ellison. Now, this is just the beginning because we still have holes we need to fill. We need about two more offensive linemen, and a running back then we should be one hundred percent complete to contending for a Superbowl. I would love for us top sign Adrian Peterson which is the best running back available but i don’t see it happening, maybe us signings Eddie Lacy who is a power runner should be a good combination with Paul Perkins who is a speed back will an give us a good one, two punch. then again lets not get one sided, all 3 major sports have a time of year that this happens and to tell you the truth this is the only time i ever go on twitter. When i get alerts all day form who signed who or who traded for who and what they gave up is by far the most exciting time for me. I get anxious to see whats going to happen next. even when i play a sports game, all i do is play the franchise mode and help my team get better; i sim the whole season and just play the the off-season. My dream job is to become a general manager for a sports team, and days like these make me want top reach that goal.

its kinda crazy how high school changed over the years in all types of ways. the teachers act differently with the students as in treating them more like children rather than guiding them to become adults. like i said before the teachers and the schools staff should be helping the students look forward to going to college and bettering themselves rather just letting the children choose what they want to do or just letting them do what ever they want. now, this doesn’t mean that you as a teacher should control their life but get them to understand that the best way is to better your education because at the end of the day, education is the only thing that no one can take away once your completed it. also, the classes, they changed over the years; from watching the documentary about a high school in the 60’s, all those classes look so cool. i would have loved to have the opportunity to take some of those classes. The first class i would have loved to take is cooking class, that would have been an easy A because i love to cook and learn to make new things to eat. as well as, the health class; now a days they only teach you certain things about health and sex and other things like that, but what they should be teaching is a better way of bettering your own health as in properly stitching yourself, or if you get cut how to stop the blood, or something that can happen at anytime. also, about what happens to the body when you break something, or something like that. That’s something i would have loved to sit and listen to someone explain that to me. i don’t know i just think high school should kind of go back to the early days and actually care about the students and not just how to school looks.

The documentary film high school which we watched in class last week was rather odd. I feel like this film didn’t have a point to put across but just show us what the average day in a high school is. It takes place in a high school in Pennsylvania where director Frederick Wiseman quietly walks around a high school and observes teachers and students during their daily routines. In some scenes I feel like teachers or students don’t act like they normally do because they see that they are getting filmed. This film has no narration it just listens to students and teachers interact over a five week period. The one thing i realized that Wiseman did was zoom in on faces to capture reactions of people. This documentary shows us how different high school life was back in 1968. Way different from the high schools we have today. Back then they had more control of the kids and what they did. Also the students had more respect in the elders by respecting them while talking. Overall i enjoyed watching this documentary it showed me how life was back then and how different everything was.

As some of you may know the soon coming (or already released) Beauty & the Beast live action adaptation has made a few changes to the original cast. One that got its own press release is that the character Le Fou, or as I remember him the hobbit that followed around the misogynist has been ‘reimagined’ as a gay character. Now to be fair the original characters obsession with Gaston didn’t always come off as one of admiration and he does have a musical number in dedication to his ‘icons’ body. Now there are most definitely those who are ecstatic over an canonically openly gay disney character coming to the big screen, however there are those myself included who are less than jubilant over this announcement. In this camp who’s membership isn’t steeped in a simple hatred of gay people the reason for their lets call it caution towards this portrayal is multifaceted. Now the first thing is that the actor playing Le Fou is a straight cisgendered man. Now it’s not like the film won’t hire gay actors as the man playing Gaston, Luke Evans is openly gay so it seems odd that they wouldn’t hire a gay actor to play their first gay role? This is the same problem I have whenever a straight or even cisgendered actor plays an LGBT role because like it or not they stole that role from an actor who’s true life experience makes them a better cast. I could go on into a rant on this alone but their are other problems that deserve recognition. The next issue is the choice of character that they used. Not only did they subjugate their ‘historic’ idea to a minor character in the film but also chose to make the first gay character in a major family move from a company with almost a hundred years of work one who’s name is literally the fool. Of all the people in the disney rolodex (and I don’t even want to think of how many better choices that are in that listing) they chose the fool to be gay. Now imagine if you would that the first person that a major company chose to be REcast into a minority group was the one named the fool, the idiot, the joke, the not-worthy. Even with the simple matter of this insult aside the ‘arc’ (if it can even be called that since his lack of importance to the story leads to him having more a flat line) of this character consists of simply being obsessed with a man. Not only is it insulting that a gay man called the fool is boy crazy, the man he’s crazy for ISNT GAY AND WILL NEVER RETURN HIS ATTENTION. The man he’s ‘in love with’ is not only in love with another person, who’s another gender, and hates him, on top of theres  THAT IS HIS ‘LOVE INTERESTS’ INTIRE PUROSE IN THE MOVIE!. To be in love with Belle and pursue her thats it thats all he does he never even redeems or gets over her he just dies. (spoiler? the film is almost thirty years old) Now even if they get rid of the second problem in the live action film and have him get over her go to college and shave half his head and become a feminist this doesn’t change that he’s a straight man who’s the antagonist/villain who’s in love with the female protagonist. Now from the little we’ve gotten of actual footage from the film even this pisses me off. One of the songs and the majority of Le Fou’s lines is centered around complementing him and my god if that isn’t both the most stereotypically gay caricature that he could’ve found. At one point in the song he literally and I wish I was making this up jumps onto a bar crosses his legs puts his arms behind him and winks seductively  at Gaston. If this doesn’t get on your nerves I can imagine anything can. I cannot fathom why disney didn’t think this through or upon seeing this scene cut the actor and recast. Having the first gay man in their move cross his legs on a bar and wink at a man is as bad as if they’d had Tatiana eat fried chicken or made Pocahontas own a casino. They might as well have him in heels and do drag hell id rather that. The only thing that will make my blood boil more is if his wrists are consistently making a perfect 90 degree angle with his arms and the word ‘hey’ is ten syllables. And before any of you go that this is a “true person in the LGBT community” please remember that this is a STRAIGHT man doing this action. So now not only is Pocahontas the owner of a casino but the person playing her is a white woman named Katelyn. Now even with ALL THAT aside I’m still annoyed because they had other more imperative characters who would’ve been a far better recasting. why not make Lumiere and Cogsworth gay? Why not one of them why not make the dresser a lesbian? If you really wanted to push the story why not make belle a man? The beast is intended to be a personification of AIDS according to one of the most celebrated lyricists in all of animation Howard Ashman. Heck you are most defiantly not constricted to the first two letters you could’ve also made either a female character for the Beast to compete with for the Belle or a Male one for Belle to need to beat out for the prince. Why not even make Belle or the Beast or any of the cursed servants trans? Someone used to being in a body not their own trapped and cursed? Now I don’t want to hear that disney needed to save face, this company owns half the dam earth. They could make the new star wars (which they own) just two people in a park getting high and swinging blunts at one another with the light saber sound and still make more money in a month then most people see in a lifetime. And lets also be clear no matter what they did to this movie this act included they were going to make millions off of it. Its a remake of Beauty and the Beast for crying out loud anything they did wouldn’t matter cause everyone and their mom, dads, and children are going to see this. They could’ve made the cursed servants paper cut outs with stick figure smiling faces and it still would be up for an academy award. So now this isn’t a risk its a back handed response to the decades long outcry for representation from a giant who owes a large portion of its success and fame to the blood, sweat, tears, and cash of the LGBT community. And the sad thing is that despite these complaints its probably the best representation of a member of the LGBT in a family move that most people can think of. But Id rather no representation then something that will undo all the hard work and make the brave people still fighting for their rights into nothing more than a joke for cis hets to laugh at. But mark my words this abomination will make more money in a week than When We Rise will make for the next ten years.

 

Last week film we watched was high school, tittle being pretty much self-expiatory it took place in a high school in Philadelphia. Purpose of the film was to document the everyday life of what goes on in high school, from students getting sent to the dean’s office to student assemblies’ to classroom environment. Even though the times were different back then I did see some parts of the film that still goes on in high school today. For example one student gets sent to the dean’s office for punching another student in the face. Student reasoning for punching the other student was he was bothering him. The dean who actually my favorite character just because he reminded me of my old dean in my high school was swift and quick to his point and had zero tolerance for fighting and gave the student who punch the other student detention. With that being said there were some other parts of the film that doesn’t ,well at least I can say from my experience from high school that doesn’t go on now that went on back then. For example how boys and girls are given social roles, the old fashion American dream men make the money to bring home to his wife and women job is to use the money pay bills, cook and clean. Its more common now then I think in any other time period in our country’s history for children/young adults to have been brought up in a single parent house hold, whether that be a single mother or father.  Witch forces man or women to be more dependent finical wise anyway witch in my opinion is good and kind of glade we drove away from that thinking that the man in the relationship has to bring in the income while woman stays home. One last difference I noticed from this day in age to back then was the meetings that went on for the kid’s future. I feel it’s great that school actually sits down with the students’ parents to talk about college education. Although faculty in the school doesn’t really cater to the students goals outside of school. If your goal didn’t involve you going to college the faculty would make you seem like a disappointment. For example there one student instead of going to college her dream was to do make up. Instead of encouraging her to pursue that dream the consular  pretty much tries to make her look bad, doesn’t help either when the father in the room not backing up his daughter. I understand that we all want what’s best for our kids and you feel sending them to college is what’s best , I also feel it’s important  to listen and support your kids goals. That being said I feel high school was pretty good documentary and give nice viewpoints of an everyday life in school.

In a Documentary that means to Save the world by solving the Worlds biggest needs. Water, Energy, and Health. Manoj Bhargava is the billionaire CEO of 5 hour energy and he has a plan to save the world. He owns Several facilities but 1 specifically for innovations. Documentaries like this one give me hope for a better future. One invention that Particularly interests me in the Desalinization machine that he intends to put on a Barge. The Barge that would suck water directly from the Ocean turn it into Fresh water then using retractable pipes could bring water inland to places suffering from drought. Once the need is fulfilled it can retract its pipe and move elsewhere in the world that are facing Devastating Droughts e.g. the middle east where children are dying from lack of water. Assisting Farmers, filling reservoirs. there are so many applications for this Invention i’m surprised it hasn’t received more attention. Another amazing is a Exercise bike, After peddling for an hour your house has power for the next 24 hours. The reason i find this invention so incredible is that 2 of the most proliferate  problems in the United Stated is Obesity and its reliance on fossil fuels. This invention addresses both. Although i do not favor our current trade agreement i believe something like this can be very useful to the whole world. So if we have to Temporarily have Manufacturing in China, Mexico, or India we could make this technology cheaper and more accessible to the whole world. There is technology on here i have already seen is his last one that Promotes health and a version of it is currently used in hospitals where inflatable ankle cuffs inflate and deflate to help increase blood flow in Distal Extremities. These inventions are amazing and hope to see more of them in the future.

Have you ever think about losing your house, or family?  The moment after I was questioning to myself too, it was hit me so hard because I had never thought about it.

On the movie, girls are dragged around like animals, left their families and living horribly; end up in such a terrible way when they are thrown out by Japan soldiers. The director didn’t make that scene; it was the real story from the survivors.

I would like to give a little description of this picture. This picture was informed by Kang, Il Chool who survived, a real character of this movie and the title of this film is ‘A burned girls.’. She draws this when the art therapy session.

I think this movie is for people who are living today and reflect on the sad history of the times that many girls who became Japan’s sex slaves and died because of them.  It is not ashamed stories for survivors, a nation that forgets its past has no future, which means if we forget about our history and people should apologize who made this happen and still not a word of apologies, this is shameful.

I was wonder why they titled ‘Spirits’ Homecoming’ for the English title, but after I had watched the movie, I recognize the real meaning of the title. Also, I couldn’t control myself from furious and sadness for awhile because I mentioned it before, this movie was based on the real story with survivors testimony.

I wish Japnese should apologize to remaining survivors with their true heart as soon as they can because many of survivors getting old and in Korea, we only have 44, and they average ages are 90. So, they should clarify their fault to worldwide, and I hope that no such painful history will never arise anywhere in the future.
